I've got a banty hen that has a swollen craw. Swollen that the craw extends and the feathers are separated. This condition has gone on for several weeks. The other hens are fine.
Do they have access to grit?
I recently treated one of our girls with a teaspoon of olive oil given by mouth, massage the crop gently then withold food for 24hrs feeding only natural yoghurt for this time, next day only allow a tablespoon of food once in the morning and once at night just before bedtime, next day increase food slightly ,all being well the next day she should be back to normal, you will need to separate her from the others to do this a dog cage is good for this because you can keep her within sight of the others, and remember to introduce her back carefully
My flock is free range and graze on grass daily. I feed them all purpose poultry, but they've been on millet most of the winter.
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
Thanks -
Pam

I have heard of the crop getting impacted and even infected. I haven't dealt with those issues myself so I don't want to try and go on memory from what I've read and advise you. But with them eating fresh grass, just do make sure they are getting grit also. You might try a keyword search to get some advice specifically about your one girl if nobody else answers this.
