mareks disease ???

The Classroom @ The Coop: Poultry Health: mareks disease ???
By Anonymous on Wednesday, May 1, 2002 - 11:56 am:

I recently incubated some eggs and they hatched out fine. There now about 2 wks. old. One of the chicks has stopped walking on one of its legs and the wings are droopy. Its appetite is not as good as should be. Is this Mareks Disease, if it is what should I do? Put the chick out of its misery, will the rest of my chicks catch this? I also purchased some japanese bantam chicks(2 wks old now). They came from Alberta, with them I received some red rocks ( I didn`t know I was receiving these) to keep the bantams warm, as I do not live in Alberta. I don`t think any of the hatchery chicks were vaccinated for this disease. My chicks and the hatchery chicks are mixed together. I have never had this problem before. I also have a 1 yr. old araucana rooster that has recently developed a growth right above its toes, its limping a little. Other then that it seems fine. Is this from mites, if it is how should I treat it?

It might be Marek's I had one do the same thing. I died. Your other birds are at risk I would vaccinate them if they are not yet.
