This is my first time to the coop. I did a search on bumble foot and got alot of good info. (Thanks to everyone for that)Since no Vet in my earea will work on chickens I'm doing it myself. Based on what I read here and in the Chicken Health Handbook. I've decided to soak and dress the foot and inject with Pen-g. Question is: Do I inject daily, how much, and for how long?
When we treated for bumble foot, we cleaned out the infected area, flooded with peroxide, dried, packed with triple antibiotic ointment, then injected 1/4 cc of Gentocin in the leg daily for about five days. It helps if you use an insulin needle or something very small and fairly short. Keeping the patient on very clean bedding is a good idea, and you can try wrapping and taping the injury to help prevent contamination if the opening seems to want to hang open. We recleaned and repacked the injury as needed, and did this more than once.

Thanks for replying. That is helpful. I already got insuline needles. Everything else I found seamed to large.

They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and so far I haven't killed anyone. I've learned to give injections. I got lucky the first two days and then found some insructions. For any one looking for help here. There are different ways of injecting for different meds. So get instructions! I found out I could have killed them by doing this wrong. Its been five days of injecting Pen-G and soaking the feet in epson salts. The scabbed area has shrank. The tissue around the wound is still hard but there doesn't seem to be any swelling under or around it. She is quite stylish with her white bootys made of guaze and tape. She is running and jumping with no trouble and is more active than befor. For now I will say things are going in the right direction. Thanks to Dr. Smith and all the past posts.I read everone that came up when I did a search.
