I have been reading on the Easy Chicken Sitemap about using Ivomec Eprinex to control paracites on chickens. I was wondering if anyone here has used this product, and what they think of it? Apparently this is a product for cattle that can be applied topically. Also, at least on cattle, it has no w/d period, but the Chicken Sitemap does advise a 6+ week period of not using the eggs. I would especially like to hear from Cjeanr, Dr Smith, and Rokomoto on this subject.

Do you mean external parasites? What kinds do you have or are you likely to have in your area? If you mean internal parasites, the same questions apply.
If using this product means that you have to throw away 6 weeks worth of eggs, then I would think that some other method would be worth considering.
My experience is that there is no magic bullet for parasites. It is better to treat them specifically when they are most likely to infest the flock, and monitor signs the rest of the time.
I do not know anything about the use of this product in poultry. A good vet ought to be able to find this out for you and advise on withdrawal times.

Actually, I don't have a problem. I'm new to chickens and have been sucking up any and all info that I can. My first batch of chics are still in the brooder, and are doing very well :) The Easy Chicken Sitemap did talk about this product as a kind of magic bullet for everything but tapeworms. Since I am suspicious of things that sound too good to be true, I started this thread.

Stve, I use Ivomecterin for my horses. There are a number of poultry people who now use it with their birds, some inject, some use the "drop on the back of the neck" method. There has been great discussions of Ivermec on other poultry discussion pages. I asked my Vet about this, and, of course, he could not recommend usage, however many chickens have safely received the medication (and a lot of birds have perished with improper use.)

Personally, I do not use any product on my bantams that is not designed for poultry! Someone else will experiment on their birds--not mine. It is my hope that Ivermec will come in a form for Poultry use in the future. If it isn't commercially profitable, it will NOT ever! CJR
