The Sil-Go-Links

The Classroom @ The Coop: Poultry Breeding/Genetics: The Sil-Go-Links
By Infomaniac on Thursday, December 27, 2001 - 01:03 pm:

The term "Sil-Go-Link" is a contraction of
"silver-gold-sex-link and is a type of red sex-link.
Historically the Sil-Go-Links are a cross between
RIR and Delaware. The RIR male is s+ / s+ and
b+ / b+ with the Delaware female being S / W and
B / W. Both the Delaware and the RIR are
Columbians. The Sil-Go-Links can be sexed at
hatch if and only if the mating is carried out
correctly (RIR male over Delaware female) ... the
female chicks are brown / red and the male chicks
are yellow.

The adult male Sil-Go-Links are essentially a white
chicken with the usual exception of some red
bleeding through on the shoulders and wings.

Our Sil-Go-Link line was my first serious breeding
project several years ago. The image below is of a
typical Sil-Go-Link hen...her name is Buffy and she
is one of two hens remaining from my first batch of
Sil-Go-Links. Her breast is cream-colored, her
shanks and feet are yellow and her body is brown.

P.S. In this photo, the ladies are watching my
brother break a bale of hay and spread it around
just outside the door of their hen house. he does
that to make a comfortable 'pad' for the ladies to
step out on rather than just stepping out into the
snow.

Nice pic, Info. Sounds like your birds are spoiled too.
