I have a group of free ranging chickens of a few different breeds and I was wandering if I were to separate them to produce pure bred chicks, how long would the different breeds have to be separated before the chicks will be pure bred.

Hi Anonymous, I'd put the ones you want to breed together and wait about 2 weeks before I started collecting the eggs for hatching. I understand the hen can store sperm for about 10 days with no rooster and still lay fertile eggs, so 2 weeks should assure you of the parentage.
