I hope to get some quail in the spring, for eggs not hunting or meat, and want to know if there are any good books/websites I should study first so that I can have some idea of what to do for them. I have hens and ducks at the moment but have never dealt with game birds before. I live on Vancouver Island, BC. Thanks.
What Species are you interested in.Coturnix are very good breed for eggs and this species has many mutants there are many breeds of coturnix some used for and eggs and meat some are used for decoration and some as pets this species is not winter hardy and must there for a heated house or must be broght indoors to winter over enles you live in florida or some tropical place. The button quail also comes in many mutants a butiful bird mostly kept as pets not used in production in is also not winter hardy.Bobwhite quail is a very hardy bird it can with stand cold winter used for its meat and eggs comes in a cople mutants you may need a wildlife or gamebird permit for bobwhites because they are native to noth america.Thats al for most commonly used quail
