Hello everyone,
Lexi, I haven't taken any birds to Canada for 5 or 6 years, but to get the export papers, here in the U.S, I had to update my Pullorum/Typhoid tests. (I do the testing), but the visit from the State Veterinarian to check the birds I was taking, plus inspect my entire flock cost me$100 (charged the purchaser in Canada.)The paper work did not come as scheduled (state office delay???) and I had to pay them an additional $25 for Federal Express delivery of the export papers!) And when I took the birds across the border--at a station-100 miles further than the closest border crossing--because there must be a Provincial Veterinarian on duty to inspect the birds at the Ag station, cost was about $80 Canadian.(there was no duty on breeding animals) I had 9 birds. I delivered these birds on my way to a Canadian airport before leaving for overseas, made a very low price for the birds, plus nothing for transport, since I was going there anyway. Takes research--where are the border stations with Veterinary services? And phone ahead to see if he/she will be there at a specific time. If cattle (or other export trucks or vans with livestock)inspections are going through, you may wait hours. If you haven't checked the vet's schedule, and not on duty just then, you may have to wait another day--don't do it near a weekend! Just ask anyone taking horses back and forth to Shows!! Shipping birds into Canada can also involve inexcusable delays or rejection. You must really want the birds and expect them to be costly by the time you get them there. Start getting information from your Provincial Agriculture Service Officers EARLY. Worth it to get what you want--and expect you might have to make several attempts but HOPE that birds will come to you with little hassle! GOOD LUCK.
I am from Canada and want to know if there are any breeders up here. If not, any information on these two breeds would be greatly appreciated. How much does it cost to get health papers, etc. to ship birds into Canada?
