Okay, so this message may be quite controversial but I was just wondering what other Coop message-board visitors thought about this matter. My question is...
We do not know the answer as you list it.
But which came first? The chicken or the egg? ha! Sorry. Couldn't resist.
The chicken. :)
To get to the goodies on the other side!
The chicken came first! God created them.
I agree...
My local PBS station (GR Michigan) is airing "The Natural History of Chickens" Jan. 8, 2002. You may want to check your local programing.
Terry, It is an entertaining program, but is not a history at all, so enjoy, but don't expect great information. CJR
Were chickens created or did they evolve from some single-celled organism?
Maybe this message belongs in the "Breeding/Genetics" part of the board, oh well.

The origin of the domestic fowl is a research project of a number of people, including one of Princes in Japan. So far, the research leads to the Jungle Fowl of SE Asia and not to a single celled organism, which becomes impossible with present technology. DNA on fossil bones is now being used to locate earliest chicken known or their relatives. But created, of course, but whether they were created instantly, or created from an earlier version of related structure, we can only theorize. But to a chicken--or to me, it does not really matter. I am interested in working with the known genes and going forward, not backward with the species. But thanks for asking. CJR
