Does anybody know a good way to clean dried poop off of fluff? The stuff is worse than gum in hair. I would hate to trim their fluff, wouldn't want them to get a chill. We did try rags soaked in hot water but it was still very difficult.
I've never had this problem but I do know that it is usually triggered by excessive stress and/or a disease. You might want to see if there are other symptoms of an illness.
My chickens occasionally have this with a change in food (like I threw out the wrong kind of table scraps!). I would go ahead and trim it, unless it is just too much, and then I would just trim the worst part away so that it does continue to build up. Sooner or later, the hen will molt or the stuff will dry up and crumble off.

Two methods that I've heard of for this problem is soaking it in water (which didn't work for you) and trimming the feathers (which you said you don't want to do). Don't try pulling out their soiled feathers since you'll hurt them.
