I have white tame turkeys that are 7 months old. when will they start to lay eggs. Do they require the same amount of light as hens do for laying? We were raising them to butcher and have 7 left and was curious if the females would lay. one more question is they are in with 3 geese. could this be a problem? I have only seen 1 goose egg in the last 5 months. how will i tell the two types of eggs apart.

Hi Tammy, I see no one has answered your post, so I will attempt to. I don't have turkeys or geese, but I think I've read that turkeys aren't like chickens when it comes to laying. I think they are more like guineas and pheasants, and lay mostly in the spring and early summer. As the summer wears on they lay less and less. Usually with birds like that they will lay a clutch or two and that's it.

I would guess (just a guess mind you) that your turkey eggs would be a little smaller than your goose eggs. I think geese tend to lay more in spring and early summer too.

This response is not from experience, and if I'm giving you bogus info (that I recall reading somewhere) I hope someone here will quickly correct me!
