Would like to purchase chicks. Please let me know if you have some show quality available. Thank you
Dean, You must know that when you buy chicks, no one can guarantee that they will be "show quality". They may be eggs from show birds, even Show winners, but every hatch will give chicks of varying degree of quality. That is the excitement of every hatch! It is for this reason that I do not sell baby chicks. Then people who want show quality birds will wait until they are 4-5 months old--a better time to choose the best. And by that time, the lesser quality birds can go to those who want pets and lovely fun at a lesser price! Just be prepared. CJR
Good advice CJR. Dean the statistics on Japanese hatching show quality is about 1 in 10 out of show stock. You buy a dozen eggs, you hatch about 6 or 7 at the most. You're lucky to get 1 show quality. You buy 25 chicks, and if the hatchery sends as hatched, at least 1/4 of them will be long legged and should be culled immediately. Spend a little extra and start with something you have seen before you buy. Actually get and study the ABA standard first before you spend any money. I can send you breeders addresses in New England form the JBBA membership list. I can't guarantee you will get great birds but at least its a better chance than chicks or eggs.
Can you tell me what color are the feet and beak are supposed to be on a gray cock and a gray female show quality .The man said they were 2 yrs. old . And should the cones be straight up or can they lean over to one side. Is it ok if there is some black on the cone of the male? And does the male have to have lacing on his chest or will that come in later in life? thank you very much ,victoria in texas
