Green egg yolks

The Classroom @ The Coop: Waterfowl: Green egg yolks

I have 2 Indian runner ducks and 1 Blue Swede duck, along with 2 Indian runner drakes. The Indian Runner ducks have just started laying again, having taken most of the winter off. This is the first laying season for the Blue Swede. Someone is laying eggs that have a greenish yolk. I've never seen this before. Does anyone know what the greenish yolk signifies? Is this normal? Would there be any harm in eating such an egg?

Could just be what you are feeding, try e-mailing one of the big hatcheries. They have been very helpful with my "silly questions" in the past. Not that yours is silly, I would wonder too.

Is the yolk green when it's raw, or after you hardboil it? I've had 'em go green on the outside when they were hardboiled, but still be yellow on the inside. I eat 'em, haven't killed me yet. =)
