We have some 1 month old ducklings we bought from a "bargain bucket" at a local farm store and ever since we got them home we've been wondering what breed and sex they are. One resembles a Crested blue Sweede (mostly blue, white patch on chest) and the other looks similar but with a yellowish-white instead of blue and no crest. Can anyone give some insight on what breed they may be, and give us some hints on sexing at such a young age?
If the blue duckling has a crest than you are correct...a blue crested. If it doesn't have a crest it's most likely a blue swedish.
I also have new ducklings and I am not sure what they are. Three are beige/brown with black feet and bills. One is brownish black with yellow striping on face and sides. This one has orange feet. My third grade class hatched a mix lot of eggs.
The only way to sex young ducklings is to vent sex, which is difficult to do & should only be done by an expert. Just be patient, and when the ducks are about 2/3 feathered, you will hear them either "quack" loudly or "squeak" softly. The loud quakers are ducks and the quiet squeakers are drakes. As far as what breed you may have, yellowish white ducklings are usually Pekins, the blue with a white front is a blue swede, black with yellow stripes would be a mallard colored duck, and I am guessing the brown ones with black bills & feet are probably Khaki Campbells. good luck with your ducks!
Many thanks,

The yellow duckling is probably a white pekin duck.
Hope this helps.
