I have Silver-Spangled Spitzhauben and can find little information on the breed. I would like to know what to look for in conformation before breeding this spring.
KarenMac,
my boys have spitzhaubens. What we found out from a around about source is that thet were more or less smuggled int to the USA. They are not a recognized breed in the Usa. I can do some digging on my desk and find the papers that we researched. I ended up talking to a elderly gent in Kentucky who was just a sweet heart. He was about 90 years old and had a friend that did the actually smuggling of the eggs.If you would like to know what all I have let me know

I am sorry to say, but as far as I recall the Spitzhauben is not a recognized breed in the USA. I beleive it is in Europe though. I know they are available from hatcheries but I have not seen them anywhere else. The only information I have for you is to take a look at a picture of some in a hatchery catalog (they always seem to show the best a bird could look like) and prepare your matings based off that. You would also follow basic breeding conformation guidelines, ie... body type, color, clear marking ect. I would pay particular attention to that "helmet" that they have, make sure it is not too large yet not too small either, with correct form. It should not look like a Polish's crest.
Hope this helps you out some.
