plants for backyard duck habitat - California

The Classroom @ The Coop: Waterfowl: plants for backyard duck habitat - California
By Mallards on Sunday, January 17, 1999 - 02:13 pm:

We've built a new duck area because we had to move it from the previous area. Although we provided some slope, it stopped running off after a few months. Now it is a stinky sludge area and will be unhealthy in the warmer months.

Are there some plants such as cattails or ornamental grasses that will suck up the moisture and manure so that we don't have to tear it all down and reexcavate?

We need to learn of plants that will not invade our lawn nearby, and the ducks will not find tasty.

Thank you,

Cynthia
