I have a friend with a horse farm who has a Pekin drake about a year old. He has free range of the property and has become very mean, especially to young children. He bites and chases you. Would neutering him make him more friendly? Is this even possible? Any ideas on how to make him more friendly is appreciated! You can e-mail me at kpatton@mindspring.com . Thanks! Katie
Get him a women !!! Some pussy should calm him down . OR REALY EXCITE HIM !!!!!!
We have the same problem with an adult male goose. He loves to intimidate children because he can. He really isn't bad with anyone who doesn't act afraid of him. A mate might be a good idea in that he will have someone to run around with and probably wouldn't be underfoot so much but if he is already aggressive he will only get worse while the female is nesting, a plus is that he will only act this way if you get close to the nest and he'll stay close to protect her. As for the neutering it is possible but I don't know if there are a lot of vets who do that sort of thing.
Our male was aggressive to our children and to us. We learned to ignore his nips and he eventually gave up. The kids learned that running from the duck is the kiss of death - it only encouraged him to give chase. We also learned that he is really aggressive when the female is nearby.
He probably just needs a mate or 2.Also penning him up would also be wise.Just pen him up with a girl or 2.Hope this helps,Callpen
