I had a big Jersey Giant rooster who was about a year old that died, after regurgatating about a pint of vomit. It was show time, and I had him and a few other hens in a box in the back of the truck (the box was cracked at the top for airflow.)--it was pretty hot that day. All of a sudden the rooster began flapping and jumping around violently inside the box. When I looked in, he was laying upside down with thick vomit coming out of his mouth and his eyes shut. He lay there, sputtering for a second while I removed him--then he died. "Litte Jerry", as I affectionately called him, was a mystery. He had traveled before. What happened?
He probably choked on something--bedding, maybe or just dust if he was breathing through his mouth because it was very hot. Sometimes hanging upside down with mouth open, can dislodge obstruction--but must be done quickly. It is a "red alert" situation--and in a mammal, the Heimlich maneuver can be lifesaving if choking. It would rarely happen except in a coop or tight situation. So sorry! CJR
this happened to a deformed hen I had, and Auracauna hen named 'Puffy.' her beak was horribly malformed, with the lower half bent to the side and the upper half bent over. She could somehow eat, and the others never bothered her even though she was TINY, about the size of a grapefruit, but one day she did the EXACT same thing! sorry, friend.
