What if any are the results of a frozen comb and wattles on a rooster? and what can you do for him?

Hi,
Frozen comb and wattles can prove to make your rooster infertile. You can rub some petroleum jelly on the comb and wattles to help hold the heat in. Also, try putting a heatlamp over his roost.

What about DUBBING? Would that save his fertilaty? Or will he be steril forever?

Dear Dechief: Living in Indiana all of my life and raising chickens the biggest part of it (over 50 years) I can say that probably there will be no adverse problems with your rooster's frozen comb. It will not grow back as some may say. It will get black and this will fall off. It's not going to look pretty but he will recover and will produce young this spring. Dubbing is cutting off the comb with scissors. This is done on game chickens that are used for cock fighting and must be done if shown on this variety. I would not suggest it on one that has already been frozen as this just adds misery to an already sore comb.....Don't give up on your rooster....Use him and see for yourself. Good luck...

I agree with chickenhawk completely. It will not I repeat not make him infirtile. As a chicken raiser my-
self I would do just as chickenhawk sas.
