Hi,

Me and my friend purchased some Blue Cochin Bantams this last year and they have not yet laid one egg. Hey have plenty of light and are over a year old. Our other chickens have also stopped laying starting around November. What is causing this? I know it may be the weather. But, do cochins ever have laying problems? (Does anyone know if a light blue colored cochin is the 'appropriate' color for showing?

It very well could be the weather. Yesterday we got almost 2ft. of snow in N.Y..To start with Cochins are
poor layers and stress adds right on to that. It could also be because of : 1} weather 2} stress for the roosters
3} maybe they're using all thier energy to keep warm or
stress from being tossed in with unknown chickens. I
bought a 4 month year old pullet once and it didn't start laying until about 7 months later from the stress from the other chickens. So, keep me posted , and yes, blue is an excelent color for showing.
