A few days ago I bought 6 peafowl chicks that are about 4 weeks old. The next day I noticed one had white stuff in one of it's eyes. I immediately wormed them with Piperazine thinking it was eyeworm. Well, they had pleanty of worms but cleaned out within 2 days. After that the eye seemed better but today it went really nasty and spread to both eyes. It looks like froth in the corner of both eyes and the chick yawns alot.
Hi Farm Mom,
Sorry not to have posted an update but my computer went on a 32 day vacation...
I'm anew chicken farmer(Emma) and I need a few tips my chicks are getting sick first their feet go limp, then they can't walk then they can't breath, eventually it is fatal.
I will start him on Terramycin today until I get any sugestions of what it could be.

It sounds like your birds have Coryza. This is a respiratory baterial infection producing Foamy, Watery Eyes, Discharge from the Nostrils, and sometimes Swollen Sinuses. It is treated with Antibiotics. E-Mail to follow with more info on this. Good luck.

I found some Arauromycin crumbles at the feed store and I just fed it to them straight. After every other antibiotic failed I wasn't to optimistic. One of the smaller chicks could not even stand up any more.
By the next day I noticed a big improvement in the birds attitudes. They started to drink on their own (I had been giving droppers of sugar water just to keep them alive) and perk up. Within 3 days the little doomed one was walking around. A week later they were all fine and gaining weight.
I found that putting some little crawly bugs in the food bowl will get a sick bird a little more interested in eating.
Hope this helps someone else!
