I am very new to chickens. I bought 12 day old chicks (mixed:bantams, leghorns etc.) Now they are 28 eight days old. No problems until yesterday, my biggest plymouth rock wouldn't walk. She hobbled here and there on her (knees) (I don't know proper chicken lingo)sorry. She wouldnt' move much. I called the hatchery where we bought her and they told me to get rid of her. Please, please help me. Do I need to get rid of her? Does she have a certain disease? Is it contagious? I have seperated her from the others. If anyone can help and needs info. please write me.
It could be something very serious and contagious...I'm thinking Marek's or some other killer. Have a vet do her in and autopsy her. I had one like that last year, fortunately it wasn't contagious but some congenital neuro problem.
An update on my chicken, I kept it in a box overnight and the next day it was up and walking just fine. It is eating and drinking and well, acting like the rest of the chicks!! Should I still be concerned?
