That's the only picture I have involving chickens. I'd like to get some taken of my coop and my flock.
Well done Sunni. We'll be waiting for more pics.
anny, With nicknames, when a stranger, it may be "just" a person, neither man nor woman. Sunni, however, sounds feminine to us, Sonny, would be a man's nickname. But you takes your chances! Thank you for instructions, I will work on it--have a lad coming to choose a great Dutch Bantam cockerel this afternoon--Ryan is 12 years old and has had Best in Show bantam at his fair, for the last 3 years--a dog killed the one he raised last year--he needs a good one for hatching this spring. Talk about heartbreak! And my granddaughter is spending the afternoon, too! CJR
Sunni, what type of chicken is that. And don't you think you could hold that poor bird so it was more comfortable. I hold my hens in their normal standing position with one wing against my body and use my hand to hold the other wing down and support the hen. They seem more comfortable than that hen looks to be. With the other hand i pet the hen or support the legs with the other arm or both.
YoYo, jealous of a chicken ?
To Anonymous.... lol! :D
Anonymous, that was a BIT off topic.
YoYo, Sunni does indeed look extreemly sadistic, but still, to me that chicken looks more unwieldy than maltreated. I have seen more deleterious techniques to hold birds.
Anonymous, Sunni does not look sadistic. I don't think the hen look maltreated, just improperly held.
Hang in there, Sunni!
Its always interesting to put a face to the name, looks like a good picture for a Chicken Calendar, like those Firemen Calendars, might increase sales for the rest of us average looking folks in the homegrown chicken communities.

How do you Americans make out if someone is a man or a woman? You can't tell by the name, can you?. I thought Sunni was a man. Anny

To YoYo... it's a white leghorn from my old flock.
As for holding it, I just grabbed one for a picture. If she faced any discomfort, it was for about 5 seconds.
Out of my new flock of 24 chickens, most actually enjoy being held. My one Buffy will stay in my arms cooing contentedly for a long period of time while I'm walking around the yard.
It's amazing the personality differences between the breeds. My RIR's and Buffys like to be held and petted while my Leghorns (new flock), Dark Cornish and Barred Rocks couldn't be bothered.

Sure beats holding them upside down by the legs. I've found many different birds prefer different holding methods. I've sometimes held birds the same way because that was the only position they seemed to tolerate. Just trying to be sensitive to each bird's idiosyncracies, personality quirks, will carry us a long way in bird handling.
By the way in case you missed the posting:
I’m writing articles on personable birds to raise and “brainy bird” stories. If you have any tales to tell - long or short, funny or serious - I’d love to put them on our WebSeedPublishing site:
BrainyBirds.com
Also, if you could you provide me with your own favorite URLs for good bird information or birds in the news, I’d love those too.
Any information you provide may be quoted directly along with your name, so please include your name as you would like it to appear in the article. If you prefer to be anonymous, that’s fine. Just let me know.
To get an idea of what the site covers, you can visit it at:
