I have three roosters and I have noticed they have some simmilar habits. First, all three of them seem to prefer red hens, then white hens. Also, they are always either eating, sleeping or doing something with the hens. My rooster will sometimes walk out in the pasture together with the hens and they won't fight. Finaly my nieghbor has chickens and when one of my nieghbors roos. crows only one of mine crows back and they never crow at each other. Are all roosters like this or do I have odd roosters?
I have two roosters that behave similar to yours. My cockerals have done their peck order fighting and now peacefully co-exsist. It seems that as long as there are enough hens to go around, everyone in happy!
My three roos are a buff orpington, a buff orpington, and a white leghorn bantam. The tree of them are constanly chasing each other off my Mostly red red sex - link and my New Hamp. I have for hens another red sex link (2 total), a buff cochin crossed with a barred rock and her daughter wohse father is the buff orpington, a yellow mutt, two whiute leghorn bantam hens, a white silkie, a concrete colored hen, a little rat sized hen with feather feet, a barred cochin bantam, a black jap, and a mille fluer. If your reffering to the use of "horny", I wasn't offended, I'd decribe my boys as horny to. I sometimes wonder if the ever think about anything other than eating, sleepin, and sex. I just didn't want you to offend anyone. My boys don't devide up the hens that evenly. The top rooster, YoYo the buff orpington, has all 6 of the big hens. My second ranked rooster, first my first chick the buff orpington crossed with a new hampshire has one hen, the silkie. My lowest ranking roo, the white leghorn bantam Mo, has 7 bantam hens. I find it a bit odd that the lowest roo has the most girls.

What breeds do you have? We have Buff Orpingtons and Black Australorps, and one we have no idea what he is!My 'Lorps do try to fly so we covered our run. someone asked a while back about egg production. My Orps are laying well, about one egg a day per hen, the 'Lorps are at two every three days, still fairly good. I want to try the Brahmas. Someone said the roosters don't crow. Anyone know anything about that?
Yo-Yo, I owe you an apology. Apparantly my choice of words in an earlier post was offensive to you. I am sorry. I will watch my tongue (keys?) in the future.
And to clear up any confusion on the "randygrace" for any British on this group, the Randy part is my husband's name, not the other meaning.
