My barred cochin bantam is setting on some eggs. What can I do to help her hatch rate. Last year I din't mess with my setting hen and I only had 4 out of ten eggs hatch. What can I do to help her success rate.

YopYO, The "hatch rate" is already pretty well decided by fertility of the eggs. Those that are fertile will be expected to hatch. Exception would be if she has too many eggs to keep uniformly warm, or if other hens can get to her nest to mess around the eggs and lay with the eggs that are incubating. Good luck--and hope they are all fertile! CJR

Last year I had 6 eggs fully developed and 2 failed to hatch. Was it something I did wrong or was it because it was that hens frist time setting and they didnt taken care of properly while eggs. I'm hoping they all hatch because I LOVE those preciouse babies and I have the space to keep all of them. I may sell or give away a pair so I can get a pair of hamburgs or domineques. I don't what to overload with chickens so I can't get a pair of breedong birds and keep all the chicks if I get to many babies. Other than that I'll be keeping them all for pets.

YoYo: What kind of climate do you have? Usually our hens set in the warmer weather, but I have to watch when they set in the barn, because they can excavate a nest hole down in the bedding and actually place some eggs next to the cool concrete. When your hen sets, is she able to keep the eggs a uniformly warm temperature?

My hems don't sit on a number of eggs they can't cover. As for climate winters mostly above twenty five at least and summers in the nietys (degrees farenhiet). My hens set in nesting areas and I don't move them so I don't disturb her.
