Does anyone know of any web sites where I can buy bags to freeze my roasters in? Last year I tried thick trash bags- wouldn't reccomend it. The feed store suggested ziplock freezer bags but this doesn't work very well either. I haven't found food grade plastic bags in any of my poultry catalogs, has anyone else? Any input on how you freeze your birds for roasting/smoking?

Roberg, I buy 1gal. freezer bags at my Super Market, for whole birds, but I cut up most of mine into 1 and 2 person servings and put them in zip lock bags. With a family I still cut them up before freezing, as they can be thawed so quickly, if pushed into sort of flat pkgs. And I do a few for company, with just wishbones, thighs and split breast pieces. Some pkgs for "plain" pieces, backs, necks, wings. Gizzards all together for soup stock (fantastic). Hearts and livers in pkgs for frying. Awfully nice to just find the pkgs you want for what ever size meal, when ready to roast(whole ones) or fry or barbeque--already to go! CJR

Last year I bought a vacuum sealing machine by Tilia from Costco. It came with rolls 8" and 11" which are made into bags. It also came with various other canisters and attachments to seal bottles and jars.

I have used mine for meats, cheese, garden veggies. The bags/rolls are thick, washable, reusable, and you can even cook in them. No freezer burn, and things last in the freezer or refrigerate better than twice as long.

O.K. I am sounding like a commercial, but I beleive in word of mouth advertizing when something works for me. Check around on the prices. I have seen them on ebay too.
