What kind of material should I use for the floor in the outdoor portion of my chicken coop? I am building a 8x8 coop with a covered 8x12 run. Would sand be alright? And how about for clean up. Is there anything that cleans up easily?

My outdoor coop area is just dirt. I rake it once in a while, and hose it down. Works very well. Then again, it doesn't get that dirty, as my chickens spend most of the time free-ranging in the yard.
Chickens love to roll around in sand and dirt, by the way. So I think that's a good choice.

I've been keeping a layer of straw on top of the ground to cover the dirt. It gives them something to scratch in and keeps them from tracking a bunch of dirt/mud into the coop.
