I have six chicks...three buff orpingtons...three aconas...one of which has turned out to be a rooster (thank goodness only one). They're all 6-8 weeks old, nice feathers and the roo has a pretty little comb and wattles already.
ChicChick, Keep feeding your chicks Starter until the pullets begin to lay!
My pullet does the same thing, except they are barred rock bantams. They will puff up their necks and go at it, feet and all. She never bothers the other little rooster or the crippled hen. She also clucks like a rooster when she finds something "good to eat".
Two questions:
When do I start feeding them 'adult' feed?
AND
One of my hens seems to be 'challenging' the rooster. Is this normal or do I have a problem? She flies at him and bounces off his chest, etc.
Thanks for any responses.

Nothing chickens do to one another is a surprise. She doesn't want him bothering her and is establishing herself as the dominant chick. Not to worry. CJR
