Does anyone know of a good video or step by step instructions for a child who wants to enter 4H Chicken showmanship?

Judy, this is a hard one to explain, there are so many things that affect showmanship. Here are some pointers, but by no means could I comment on all the factors:
**Be sure to take clean birds in good condition to the fair.
**Make sure that the pens are kept clean, and don't give the birds any feed or water on the day of judging until after they are judged. If it is extremely hot, go ahead and give them some water, but be sure to remove it before judging time. This helps to keep the birds clean and active, and it prevents the bird from dumping its water on the judge, also.
**Always handle the birds gently, never grab by the legs or wings. When removing a bird from the cage, always take it out head first, and when returning it to the cage, put it in head first.
**Learn a little about the breed you are showing, its history, classification, breed characteristics, and disqualifications.
**Be a good winner as well as a good loser. Ask the judge questions, and pay attention to his answers not only to your questions, but to others questions as well. Chances are, he will check to see if you were paying attention.
**Always be polite to the judge and other exhibitors, and be sure to thank the judge if you have a big win. The most important thing to remember about showmanship is that it is not just for the 10 minutes of the showmanship class. The judge will be watching you from the time he arrives until the time of the showmanship class.

Good luck at the fair!
