Forcing a moult?

The Classroom @ The Coop: management archive 2: Forcing a moult?

I have been told that I should try to force a moult on birds a few months before showing, its about that time, but I have forgotten exactly how to go about it. Anyone have any info on force moulting? Thank you!

I believe it has something to do with feed and lighting, but I am not for sure. Anyone out there who can confirm or add info?

To force a moult you have to starve your birds nearly to death. I would NEVER do that, certainly not for show purpose. It would be much more honourable to try winn a price by natural means. Just my opinion. Good luck, Anny.

Since it takes at leat 6 weeks to grow just a sickle feather and you won't get a quick moult at best, I agree with Anny, you take your chances when you raise birds to show at a certain date. I would rather try to hold the plumage, by good feeding and management. I don't know who would tell you this, but they might be your competition? CJR
