Hi All,
Just wanted to stop in and say that my chickens are doing really great now... We found who was killing our little bantams off.. It was our cat tiger... He now has a great new home with our son Joe and his wife Mandy... they live further in the country then we do.
I got the books that you all recommended and they are great help... I live on 5 acres and I let the chickens out every day.. They of course get there starter food. I have no plans of moving there coop to diffrent area's for they are not in the coop that much. Is this ok?
They found my garden today and boy did they love the tomatoes..... Is this ok?.....
We have a few chicks coming on Friday for the ones the cat ate so they have company....
Once again I love this site and thanks for all the help..

I've been feeding the girls tomatoes for a while. They love 'em! Nothing adverse. eggs every day! If we don't give them some they pick them off the plants themselves! Enjoy!! They will destroy your garden, and flowers and every thing that is green and grows given the chance! But we love them anyway! Mike

Hi Sue, yes, chicken adore tomatoes. I grow them and any I don't use or give away goes directly to the girls and they disappear! I give my birds any and all veggies and fruit, except potatoes. I read here that the skins of potatoes are not good for them. Also I read you must wash anything your getting from the store due to pestisides. Orange peels aren't really much good either, I understand. Watermelon rinds with any leftover watermelon on them can be given and they like them also. Just take out whatever they don't eat, don't want to leave smelly rinds in your pen. I've found there's not much chickens won't eat, tho my bantams are a bit pickier. Mike's right, they will tear up your veg and flower gardens. Oh, and strawberries, they go quicker than tomatoes!
