There I was, surfing the poultry links, and BANG! There it was; the chicken Dr. Seus couldn't dream up. A naked necked, blue egg-laying silkie bantam! But you have to see it to believe it, so go to http://www.geocities.com/Petsburgh/6624/index.html and see for yourself. Mr. David Terry has been developing this unique breed for several years. But alas; here I am in Virginia Beach, VA, USA; and Mr. Terry all the way over in Australia; where quarintines make shipping these birds a huge hassle. So I come here in the hope that SOMEONE here in the States breeds these remarkable birds.

Sorry about the double post!!!
Inga; I am indeed interested in unique crosses, but am a fan of Silkies and Araucanas in particular. I will check out those two pages. If I find somthing close to what I'm looking for, I'll post it so others can find it too. Thanx for the reply!
Oh, by the way, my e-mail address is: Grndragons@aol.com (that's "green dragons" not "grand dragons"!!!)
YES!!! This breed IS in development in the US!!! It's still in the beginning stages, and there aren't that many out there doing it as far as I know (I used to be a part of the project, but got out of it in favor of my australorps). The breed-in-development is known as the Showgirl...
Hi,
Eagerly waiting reply,

I agree that "David's Blue Egg Page" is REALLY exciting. Are you a Silkie fan or simply into unusually crosses? The only person I know in the US working on anything close to this is George Stromberg. He calls the variety a "Showgirl" Silkie but they lack the blue egg gene. He's been working at it for a few years. His homepage is at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/4134/ and he is very friendly to email. You might also look over on the Poultry Genetics Board. A gal named Kathy just posted on an issue like this one -- http://www.insidetheweb.com/messageboard/mbs.cgi/mb55754
Let me know how it goes! If you are a Silkie fan, get back to me and I'll link you up the main Silkie lists and links...
Good luck!

Yes this breed is bred in the US. A friend of mine, Kevin Cantrell in southern California is the one who started it. He came up with the idea to cross silkies and turkens togather and he originated the name "Showgirl" for them. He is the first person to have succeeded in hatching a showgirl. The showgirl project started on the poultry email list bird_farm several years ago and several people worked on developing and refining them. On the list George and Katra worked on this breed but Kevin was the one who came up with both the name of the breed and the idea to use silkies and turkens to make them.
gentle day,
