Can you tell me what a cross of a New Hampshire red and a black austrolorp (sp?) might be like . I have one chick of this cross and I am just curiouse as to what he/she will be like . Will it have white skin or yellow ? will it lay well ? Will its eggs be dark shelled , light shelled or some where in between ? what will it look like ? has any one else ever had this kind of chicken ? Thanks for any info

I know this is a late response but I just recently got into this site.
It is hard to say exactly what this cross will be like physically. One general rule that breeders go by is:
Type (body shape and conformation) comes from the female, Colour comes from the male. So, which one was male and which was female would be important to know. The rule is applied when breeding pure breeds and the breeder is looking to improve through line breeding but it is sill a good general rule to go by. Both of these breeds are large, dual purpose for eggs and meat so the body size will be about the same as the two breeds, conformation will be slightly different I would think but I have never seen this cross. The colour should be striking but again you just have to wait to see the combination. Both of the breeds you used are brown egg layers so that will not change and both are good layers.
Good luck with them.
