I didn't know what to put this under, but recently I heard that commercial chickens are fed hormones to make them grow bigger faster and if we eat those chickens or eggs the hormones make people grow too.(although not so much adults as kids) Some people's children are much taller than their parents and I was wondering if there was any truth behind this rumor.
Anonymous, We don't know what kind of additives the poultry in the markets have been fed. Having been raised on homegrown--as many of the folks who raise chickens have been--I do not eat store chicken!!! The European Markets will not purchase beef from the U.S. because of hormones, even though "they" report that such meat has been proven to be perfectly safe?? Fish and shellfish from poluted waters????Vegetables sprayed with ????, although the stores publish "no detectable residue". . . .We must eat--and better not to worry, there is little doubt that most of what we purchase at the Super Market is beautiful food! But children taller than their parents would not be valid. Most children receive a better balanced diet--Japanese children are the best example, as so many are now taller for this same reason. And most nationalities who have been small of stature, do have children who grow taller when they follow a better diet. The hormones would not come through in the same way they went in--they have been utilized and CHANGED when metabalized and developed into muscle and tender meat! But we should be concerned. I cannot see why U.S. Beef producers "beef" about not being allowed to export to the European Market. All they have to do is STOP using hormones on their export product! Oh well, that is out of my province--I must stick to my own! Raise my own, eat my own--meat, veggies, bread and fruit--as much as possible! And when you eat out--just enjoy it! CJR
