I have a hen (but then, dont we all?)...
Remember that the "Americauna" is most likely the product of innumerable crosses with other types of birds. Even the most persistent dominant factor can be diluted to extinction. Beyond a 1/8 Araucana mix, the blue egg factor can be lost.
Can anyone tell me what combining a Buff Orpington Rooster with a Barred Rock hen might produce?? Also I have a Rooster that I have no idea what he is. He looks like the rooster on the Keloggs cereal box. Does anyone have any ideas?
Buff Orpington X barred Rock should produce gentle birds that are good egg producers. The cockerels will be barred black, but the barring will not be very distinct. They will start to get some red in their hackle too. The pullets will be almost solid black, but with red in their breast and hackle.
I have 5 White Hens, that I got as Chicks 2 weeks before Easter hoping for eggs, It's been over 24 weeks, no eggs. What Im I doing wrong. HELP
She is an old hen, but still laying- for the moment.
She looks like she might be a cross between an
Americauna and a RI Red. She has a small comb, is a
heavy sized reddish brown bird, with a few distinctive
features including distinctive cheek feathers and beard
feathers, has a pretty long neck (in comparison to her
body)- but lays BROWN eggs! So much for the blue egg
gene being dominant- hehehe.
Anyway, I am replacing my flock with chicks. This bird
is pretty distintive, and it would seem a shame not to
breed her for her characteristics.
If anyone is interested in breeding her for her
characteristics, come and get her- you can have her. I
am in the Tampa Bay area of Florida.
