My eggs are hatching tonight and they are silkeys crossed with a game cock and we need to know if they will have webless feathers .

Most likely the chicks will have webless feathers. It seems to be a dominant trait in silkie crosses.

I have a small flock of 7 hens and 1 rooster. One of my hens (I think) is starting to lay. She has been on the nest now going on 2 days. I can walk right up to her and touch her and she trys to peck me. I have never had a hen set before and I would appreciate it if someone could tell me what to do. Can I move her and the nest? Do I leave her in the coup? I really need some answers. Thank You!!

Did you mean that one of the hens has started to SET? Does she have eggs under her? If so, since she has been there 2 days, you could move her box and all, at night, to a quiet safe place, where she can reach food and water (about once or twice a day, she will get off to eat, drink and poop.) It is important that no other hens lay in her nest, as the eggs will be mixed and if fertile, will hatch later--not a good thing. Good luck, CJR

I need the breed for a rooster. I have been raising chickens for about two years now but I'm still pretty new at it. I have a flock of 18 black sex links and I needed a rooster for the flock. My friend had a rooster that they were going to get rid of but he was still pretty young so I took him in. Please help if you known what breed he is. He has orange-red eyes, he's black and white and that goes in stripes. He has a fairly big cone and also has a small white streak on each side of his beak. If ANYONE one knows please post it up. Also, if you can let me know if it's able to breed with black sex links. Thanks

Anonymous, The most common "striped" black and white breed is the Barred Plymouth Rock. Is the comb tall and single? There are other breeds that come in Black and white barred pattern. However, if you are just wanting fertile eggs to hatch (your hens probably will not "set", but will require an incubator--or you might borrow a setting hen to hatch some eggs), any rooster of any breed will do the job!!Since the SexLinks are already a crossbreed, the chicks may be a variety of colors--and will make nice attractive layer replacements or fryers. Because with one rooster and 18 hens, all eggs may not be fertile. You could pen him with 5 or 6 of your favorites that are laying well, and all eggs will be fertile after a week or less. When you have enough fertile eggs that you want to hatch, then turn him back with all the flock. Enjoy the project--and get the stuff you will need for baby chicks and raising them, if you do not already have it on hand. CJR
