It is and has been done--but the offspring are sterile. It is a chromosome thing. CJR

According to Cathy Brunson's book about araucanas, in his study of the araucana, Prof. Salvador Castello Carreras, Headmaster of the Royal School of Poultry Industry in Spain, felt that the blue egg might be the result of a cross with a pheasant called Chachalaca. He found that the Indians of central america would cross a Chachalaca male over their domestic hens to get fighting cocks. While most of the offspring were sterile--again that chromosome thing--occassionally some were fertile and produced the blue egg. So while technically it is not possible, we all know sometimes strange things do happen.

Scott, Exactly! Never say never! Hope is inborn-and just sometimes (well,VERY rarely) things we NEVER expect, do happen! CJR

What about a peacock chicken cross?

I have several photos of a peacock x domestic hen hybrid. Fred Hutt deals with such hybrids in his book. I also had a neighbor who had a ring neck x banty hen hybrid when we were kids. It was sterile.
