I have looked all over this web-site and can not find the answer to this question...
Since it is a sex-link, it is a crossbred, and while the sex-links look quite a lot alike, there will be differences. It is probably a sex-link, as represented. CJR
Dear CJR
A more complete description would be needed to ID it positively. (ie. comb type, size, skin color earlobe color) Many breeds are speckled black and white; Anconas, Hamburgs, Cochins. Check out the Oklahoma State University site for great reference photos. The best source of reference would be the Standard Of Perfection.
I think black sex-linked is a cross that includes barred rock and a red breed such that the female progeny are solid black and the males barred. If the "others" are all hens and only the rooster is different, then I guess tbe reason for the difference in appearence is that they are sex-linked as you were told, and he's showing his barred rock heritage.
A black sex link is a cross between a barred rock hen and a rhode island red rooster. The males look similar to a barred rock and the females are black with a reddish colored breast.
Hi I have a rooster a friend gave me.
Loria, if you have a picture of him to scan save, and insert it. He has a single comb. If you could weigh him i could give you a list of breeds around that weight with a single comb. I've never heard of a breed like that so unless i could get a picture i would guess he is a mutt.
Hi yoyo,
For breeding there would be no problem just as long as you don't mind getting mutts. Would you mind postting it (see formating for instructions). I don't give out my e -mail.
Hi again YoYo,
I have a flock(?) of chickens which I recieved through someone from someone from 4H in VA. They are bantams, nothing fancy, and very handsome. They are a solid red (sometimes a light red, sometimes a dark red, but doesn't seem to be as dark as a R.I. Red) and have a single comb. They do have feathers down their legs and feet so I have told people they are Cochins, until I saw a picture of a Cochin. Great chickens, smart, gentle, and broody often, but what are they? I thank you now for your response, Pegalooch
I have a chicken that is speckled black and white
It was sold to me as a sex-link, but doesn't look like the others.
This one is a rooster and I want to give it away and would like to know the name of it first.
Thanks

Isn't there a chicken breed that is normally black and white speckled. What is that name do you know?
I'm not to confident that the feed store where I bought these chicks knows that much about chickens.
It was just a young boy that sold them to me.
Any ideas?
Thanks

He has a light beige neck, white body and blue green tail feathers. His comb is flat with spikes all over it. If any one can tell me what kind of rooster I have,I sure would appreciate it.

I dont give out my E-Mail either. You never know whats out there.....Any way thanks for the help....Formatting looks to be a drag to figure out so I'll just stick with knowing that he is a mutt and I've got the best of both worlds good eggs and plumper juicier chickens.
