By StarMoon67 on Friday, August 20, 1999 - 05:10 pm:

I have 25 chicks and one walks backwards and tries to bury its head in the shavings it sometimes will be pretty acrobatic and do a tuck and roll move! Could she be blind? Also do they need there wings clipped? I'm new at raising chickens and they didnt come with a manual! The chicks love oatmeal, I was told to give this to them because some were pasting up, but now they expect me to feed it to them, how much should be given? One last question and I'll be on my way, When can they go out doors? I have the spoiled bratts in my house and I have ducklings & goslings coming in a week the chicks are aprox. 3 weeks old. Any advice would be greatly appriciated!!!!

Young chick's are often born with the membrain still covering there eye's.
If after a day or two they seem to be out of step with the other's gently wash there eye's with cool water
this will remove the remenents of the membrain and hope all is well.
I had the same problem with one of mine and now he is a very large cockeral.

I havesome new bitties that have been makeing normal droppings, but today they started drooping a clear stool with a lil bit of white to it... what sickness will cause this??????????

Brand new babies? Not likely a sickness--what are they having for their food? That determines the looks of the poop. CJR
