peeping from inside the shell

i heard that chicks peep from inside the shell and should come out 24 hours later. tomorrow is 21 days and i dont hear any peeping- r they dead????????

On day 19 or 20 you usually hear pecking and maybe peeping. Just be patient--candle, if you want to--should be mostly dark with an air space at the wide end. They may be late for some reason, but peeping is heard when they start pipping. Good luck, CJR

I had my first batch of chicks hatch out of the incubator this spring, and was so surprised and delighted to hear them peeping inside the shells a few hours before they came out. I had no idea they would do this, and was pretty excited to know that yes indeed they were actually alive and comming out. (Candling didn't show me anything for sure except the air sac and a few blood veins.)
