I need to know how long it takes for an egg to hatch, and what is the breed of those regular chickens - I guess i need to know what a regular, hardy, chicken is that is in demand.
21 days (mine always hatch on day 23)as for your other ? i am not sure - in demand for what ? eggs or meat?
For eggs
i think leghorns are the best for eggs (white eggs)but i am no expert.. i am selling chicks if your interested.
Are Leghorns the kind that produce eggs that you can find at a Grocery store? Are they the breed that produce yellow fluffy chicks?
Lots of breeds produce yellow fluffy chicks, including White Leghorns. They are usually the best layers if you get a production strain, have good feed conversion, and do not weigh much. They tend to be a little aggressive, do not set, and are not endowed with much personality. Probably all the white eggs at the grocery store were laid by caged white leghorns in huge layer houses.
oh,well what are a nice breed of chicken that is kind of like that?
Hello? I could really use the help. I need a "nice" chicken that is in demand for eggs
We like Black Australorps for egg production and calmness. They rarely peck at you when gathering eggs from underneath them and they are solid and attractive birds. A very few will set for you, but not many. We had two or three out of our last batch of 25 set and two of them hatched eggs. If you establish their reputation locally, almost any breed which lays will give you superior eggs in terms of quality, when compared to grocery eggs. For quantity, a production strain of White Leghorns will give the best results, but they are not very personable birds and are more aggressive and hostile on the nests. They are all business, however. Hope this helps.
I LOVE my Isa Brown's.
IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A CHICKEN THAT WILL PRODUCE LOTS OF BIG BROWN EGGS THAT HAS A NICE DISPOSITION I WOULD GO TO ONE OF THE HYBRID SEX-LINK HENS .I HAVE HAD GOOD LUCK WITH THE"GOLDEN COMMET" AND THE "RED STAR" KEEP IN MIND THESE ARE CROSS BRED CHICKENS MADE FOR LAYING. IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA TO USE THEM FOR BREEDING . YOU MUST ALWAYS BUY NEW PULLETS. IF YOU WANT TO RAISE YOUR OWN REPLACEMENTS PICK ANY OF THE DUAL PURPOSE BARN YARD BREEDS.IF YOUR JUST GETTING STARTED ORDER PULLETS FROM SEVERAL DIFFERENT BREEDS THE FIRST TIME AND BY THE FOLLOWING YEAR YOULL HAVE A FAVORITE. ENJOY YOUR CHICKENS!!!!!!!
Thanks for all the wonderful responses, I have another question, is it possible to raise an egg with out a incubater?

They are a beautiful rusty brown colour with red face and crown, very friendly and easy. I say , "down" and they squat for me to pick them up.
I believe (though I'm not positive) that they are a decendent of the Rhode Island Red.
The Isa Brown's are work horses, I consistently get large brown eggs.
