I would like to know what I should do for one of 5 chicks(orpington)i bought yesterday, which are 1 week old now. The one chick has dried hard dropping on it's bottom,I tried to take it off but its like glued on.should I just leave it or should i try getting that area wet?
Rose, Sure, use some warm soapy water on soft cloth or towel. It may not all disolve and you will have to pull it off, the chicks down will come off, just like pulling hair and the chick will scream, (in time new down or feathers will grow--he'll be bare until then), but if you don't pull it off, it will plug him up or just grow in size, as the new poop will cling to it.. . . Then wash and blot dry. Check your temperature--not too warm or too cold-95f this week, about 90f next week etc. until 70f, then hope for summer weather. CJR
